Scopes Trial • It is formally known as Scopes Vs. The State of Tennessee. • It is informally known as the Scopes Monkey Trial. • The Scopes Trial was an American legal case that tested The Butler Act. • Act that made it unlawful to teach any theory that denies the story of the Devine Creation, as it is taught in the bible in any Tennessee school that is funded by the state.
Ku Klux Klan • The Ku Klux Klan was a secret society of white Southerners in the United States that were formed in the 19th century to resist the emancipation of slaves • Were a hate group. • Hit the highest of members in 1925. Over 4,000,000 members. • Some members held political power. • Klan men were usually never caught or charged for their actions. • The Ku Klux Klan was know to be 100% Protestant.
Prohibition • Americans were preoccupied with the Eighteenth Amendment of the Constitution • prohibited the manufacture, sale, and transportation of alcoholic beverages. • The amendment was the result of long, dedicated effort by reformers, many of them active in Protestant evangelical groups. • The Anti-Saloon League, had strong ties to the Methodist Church. • An organisation opposed to the sale of alcoholic beverages • The Anti-Saloon League called them selves the Protestant church in action.
