  3. DEFINITION Adolescent – 10- 19 yrs Youth- 15-24 yrs Young people- 10-24 yrs

  4. WORLD - Nearly 1/5th of total population INDIA- 22.8% of total population Approximately of 230 million adolescents Sex ratio of adolescent girls in 13-19 years age 897 in 1981 to 884 in 1991.

Rapid physical growth Experimentation and development Development of adult mentalprocesses &adult mentality Physical social and psychological maturity Sexual maturity and onset of sexual activity Beginning of menstrual cycle & Onset of reproduction cycle Transition Total SE dependence to relative independence. SPECIAL CHARACTERS

  6. MAIN STAGES 9-13 rapid growth spurt and development of secondary sexual characters striving for independence & identity & relationship with peers & opposite sex & experimentation almost an adult Early adolescence 9-13 Mid adolescence 14-15 Late adolescence 16-19
