Scope of the FIGO initiative 43 countries with high abortion/ unsafe abortion rate, with a plan of action approved by the Government and the Obstetrics and Gynecology Society

Goals of the initiative To contribute to the reduction of maternal mortality and morbidity associated with unsafe abortion To contribute to the reduction of the burden of induced abortion for women
How to achieve those Goals? With the collaboration of Health and Education Governmental Agencies, IPPF MA, UNFPA, WHO, Ipas and other organizations

Quaternary Prevention: Contraceptive counseling and services to prevent repeated abortions `Effective Family Planning counseling during admission and provision of contraceptive services, ideally before discharge

Future of the FIGO initiative The FIGO Working Group will continue, at least until 2015, following the implementation of the plans of action and of its results
Future of the FIGO initiative We expect that new societies from additional countries will participate in this FIGO Initiative within the next year.
