The town Vysoké Mýto is a town of the Czech Republic. Founded in 1262 by the king of Bohemia, Otakar II. Vysoké Mýto is a tourist centre. It is also a residential, economical, administrative and cultural unit of East Bohemia. Vysoké means “high” and Mýto means “toll”. As the town was situated on a very important medieval trade path, its name may refer to the high toll that traders had to pay here at that time.
City Hall Its Mayor is called Martin Krejza.
The Coat of Arms In the coat of arms, there is a knight on a horse. He is killing a dragon. The horse is white and the knight, St. George, has got a coat and a lance. Originally, there was only a GREEN dragon on a RED field in the coat of arms; in 1472 king Vladislav II added St George and declared it the official coat of arms of Vysoké Mýto.

Patron Saint • In 1472 king Vladislav II added St George to the coat of arms and declared it the patron saint of Vysoké Mýto.
Prizes • The town was the first in the Czech Republic awarded the prize "Sri Chinmoyovo town of peace" for quick converting of military barracks into peace-serving buildings and organising events supporting understanding among nations.
Climate • The mean annual temperature is 7º C to 9º C in the Czech Republic. High temperatures can reach 23º C in July, and low temperatures may drop to -17º C during February.
Monuments • The Old Town Hall was built at the beginning of the 15th century. It is a very important building . It was called "big rathuz’’ (rathouse) until 1945, because that’s the German word for Town Hall and the German influence was very important in the Czech Republicat that time.
Cathedral of St. Vavrinec is from 1349, Its architecture and stone work remind us of the Virgin Mary and St. Laurent's church in Nuremberg. • The Bell Tower was built from the remains of abolished monasteries at the end of the 16th. century. The second floor for smaller bells was added in 1720.
The singularity of the square, one of the largest in the country after Prague, is based not only on its size. The square is one of the most important remains of Gothic architecture in the Czech Republic. A column is situated in the middle of the square to remember those who died from the plague.
