Running Citavi from a USB flash drive You may wish to run Citavi from a USB flash drive for one of two reasons: • You do not own a computer with the Windows operating system and thus plan to work with Citavi on a public computer in the Thomason Library or in a computer lab. • You wish to work with Citavi on more than one computer with the Windows operating system and always start from the most current file for your project. In order to do this with minimal risk, you mustsave your project after each session to the Socrates network drive if using a Library or lab computer or the hard drive on your own computer – otherwise, you’ll lose some if not all of your work if you lose your flash drive.
Running Citavi on a USB flash drive To install Citavi on a flash drive: • Connect a flash drive with at least 250 MB free space to a computer running the Windows operating system that is in turn connected to the Internet. • If you already have installed Citavi on the computer, start the program, click on the Help drop-down menu at the top of the screen, click on Install Citavi on a USB flash drive, and follow the prompts. • If you have not installed Citavi on the computer, the following slides will guide you. • Note: the PDF Picker will not work from a USB flash drive.
Go to www.Citavi.com and click on the Download Citavi Free button in the lower left corner of the screen.
In the Opening CitaviSetup.exe box, click on Save File. Citavi will download the program files to the computer you are using.
When the download is complete, click on the Start button at bottom left of your screen, then click on Documents.
Click on Downloads in the left column, then double click on CitaviSetup. If a box pops up asking if you want this program to make changes to the computer, click the Yes button.
Close the web browser and any other open programs, then click the Next button and accept the terms for the user license.
In the Browse For Folder box, click on Computer and then on Removable Disk. On the next two screens click Next to accept recommended settings. Citavi should install on your flash drive.
Click on the Start button (or Windows icon) in the lower left corner, then click on Computer in the right column.
Now you’re ready to work with Citavi from your USB flash drive. Just remember to save your project after each session to the computer hard drive or to a network drive.
