2. Do you know anything about Chinese culture? Chinese culture is very interesting and meaningful to the Chinese and other people. • Do you know what the Chinese family is like? Do you want to find out, and see how important it is?

3. Jiaozie is a boiled or steamed dumpling that can be found in many Chinese restaurants. Rice is a very common part of a Chinese meal and can pretty much be found in all meals. Fast food in China is getting very popular and is more popular than before. Many U.S. restaurants have opened up in China like McDonalds and KFC. Steamed dumplings and noodles are a common part of a typical Chinese meal. Chinese food contains lots of beans, fats and carbohydrates. People who lived close to the river ate a lot of fish because they lived near the river and they could catch fish easily so it was convenient and free for the villagers who lived by the river or the sea. Most Chinese meals are served with small pieces of vegetables and meat. Many people who lived in China were farmers and grew a lot of rice because rice is very important in China. 4. Chinese food is known for three very important things: aroma, color, and its flavor. In China the number one main crop was rice. Rice became the main staple for most of the country. People in China also ate goats, pigs, chicken, and fish. On New Years Day, more food is consumed than any other holiday in the Chinese culture. On New Years Day the Chinese people eat one of their favorite dishes, small meat dumplings and wheat bread. In the South most of the typical dishes were Nian Gao, which is a sticky cake. 5. A bride in China that is going to get married in the modern day has to wear three special outfits on her wedding day. The bride will have to buy a special red dress and wear new shoes. For religious brides there will be no church ceremony. Women could not say whom they wanted to marry, their parents decide for them and they could not even get a say. Chinese traditions • The night before the wedding day is very serious, at dawn the bride has to take a bath so she does not have to do it in the morning, on the wedding day the bride has to wake up very early to go to a photo salon to get her picture taken, then she has to go get her wedding dresses. The bride always has to bring at least three different dresses, one to wear and the others to bring. 7. The Qi Xi festival is like a Chinese valentines day but it is celebrated on a different day and can also be called the double seventh festival . A Chinese bride will have to paint boiled eggs the color red because the color red is a lucky color in the Chinese culture. Getting married in China is very expensive. During the dragon boat festival you race dragon boats, eat rice dumplings and wear special perfume because a famous poet, Qu Yuan killed himself by jumping into a river after he found out that his homeland had been conquered and the day he killed himself is now known as the dragon boat festival. • The Moon festival is celebrated in mid-autumn and that is why it can also be called the Mid-Autumn festival you also eat rice cakes during this festival. 8. Only wealthy women in China were allowed to wear silk robes but the lower ranked people were not allowed to wear silk. Merchants were considered the lowest class of workers and they were not allowed to ride in carriages or wear silk. • Only wealthy boys attended school but the lower ranked people did not go to school and get educated. • The Chinese calendar is based of the movement of the moon and is called a lunar calendar. • One of the unlucky numbers is 4 because in Chinese it sounds like the word death. • The number 2 in the Chinese culture is considered lucky because in Chinese it means good things come in pairs. In the Chinese culture 3 is a lucky number because it sounds like the word birth. The numbers 6 and 7 are also considered lucky in the Chinese culture. • In China there are 5 primary colors and the colors are red, black, green, white and yellow. Fun facts

In the Chinese house, the Chinese family was ruled by the father, they had to respect their father at all times and obey his orders. • Women took care of the children and cooked the meals. • The majority of the people who lived near the mountains were farmers. Farmers were respected because they provided for the rest of the Chinese even though they lived tough lives. • A typical farmer lives in a small village of around 100 families. • In China only wealthy boys went to school but the girls got their feet bound in the palace very expensive and the poor families could not afford it.
