National Statistics ‘All’ & ‘new’ clients attending agency based SEPs in Cheshire & Merseyside (1991 to 2008)
Local Statistics (Eastbourne) • Since the start of the PIED Project we have had 32 new people register in Eastbourne, in June alone 90% of newly registered were PIED users.
At present the total number of PIED USERS registered in Eastbourne is 433 which is 49.7% of the total NSP users.
Why has the pilot been commissioned? In response to marked increase of service users accessing local NSP‘s claiming to inject PIEDs. To gather further information about the scale of the problem. To develop & test a service model that extends the reach of local drug services to PIED users.
Aims of the Pilot Study To develop the knowledge & skills of staff directly involved & transfer these skills to other staff. To focus on improving the service users knowledge about the risks associated with the use of PIEDs & offer advice about alternative lifestyle choices. Blood borne virus testing/hepatitis B vaccinations. To conduct audits to identify trends, monitor activity & assess the effectiveness of the service. To liaise with criminal justice agencies to establish the amount of steroid related physical assaults/other crimes carried out in East Sussex.
