  3. Red Sea - Dead Sea Water Conveyance Project 3 Main Objectives Save the Dead Sea from environmental degradation Desalinate water and generate hydro electricity for Israel, Jordan, and the Palestinian Authority Serve as a symbol of peace in the Middle East

  4. Consequences: • Red algal blooms and gypsum deposits in the Dead Sea • Soil and ground water contamination due to pipeline leakages • Massive pumping out of the Gulf of Aqaba could harm vulnerable ecosystems • Estimated cost is over 10 billion U.S. dollars
