  3. NRC Roles • Enforce regulatory requirements • Evaluate licensee performance vs standards and procedures (PI&R inspections) • More than one “correct” program • Ensure ROP premise is maintained • Assess overall effectiveness, address issues if significant

  4. CAP - What is Working Well? • Support of positive Safety Conscious Work Environment and premise of the Reactor Oversight Process (ROP) Robust, well structured and mature Focused on resolving safety issues Strong identification of problems

  5. Current Challenges Prioritization/Significance Assessment Causal Analyses (“Mindset” applied) Trending Effectiveness Application of vendor information Effectiveness Reviews

  6. Supplemental Inspection Insights Lack of timely resolution – “normalization” of degraded conditions. Inadequate trending – aggregate impact of deficiencies not identified. Actions need to fully address cause analyses results, including program deficiencies.

  7. Excellence in CAP Initiative • Adherence to regulations and standards • (Fundamental role of the CAP) • Ability to detect/resolve causal factors • Ability to prioritize • Support of positive Safety Conscious Work Environment • Continued support of ROP premise
