What We Do! • Welcome to Professional Support and Development department!  We're working hard to ensure that all HISD teachers have access to a powerful professional development network that meets their individual needs. Over the past year, we've reorganized and developed several key strategies for delivering the kind of relevant and useful support our teacher's need to effectively reach their students.

HISD Professional Support & DevelopmentPositioning Statement • Houston ISD Professional Support and Development • is the best source of accelerated professional learning and • support forteachers on prioritized campuses • because we provide: • Responsive instructional TDS coaching that includes, observation, goal setting, modeling, practice, and feedback aligned to the HISD Instructional Practice Rubric and the effective implementation of the HISD Curriculum; • Support and facilitation of collaborative Professional Learning Communities to build campus capacity. • High-quality and ongoing face-to-face, online, and blended learning opportunities for teachers that result in immediate and practical classroom application.

PSD Theory of Change When we coach for and facilitate high-quality professional learning that results in the planning and implementation of rigorous instruction that includes reading, writing, questioning, high expectations, and formative assessment, teacher capacity and student achievement will dramatically increase.

  10. HISD Professional Support & Development2013-2014Goal : Teacher Development Specialist (TDS) Impact • 90% of all teachers on prioritized campuses will agree that their TDS serves as a useful resource in their ability to grow as a teacher.

HISD Professional Support & Development 2013-2014 Goal: PSD Training and Resources • 85% of users will find the PSD Video Exemplars and Effective Practices highly useful to impact and change teaching practices. • 85% of teachers participating in PSD facilitated professional development will find the training meaningful and useful to impact their teaching practices.

HISD Professional Support & Development 2013-2014 Goal:New Teacher Development/Retention • Retain 90% of first year teachers that are rated as Level II or above. • 85% of new teachers will respond that their mentor has helped them to effectively improve their instructional skills and teaching strategies. • At least 95% of ETF ACP teachers will be certified at the end of their 2013-2014 internship year.

  13. HISD Professional Support & Development 2013-2014 Goal: Student Performance Goal • Every prioritized campus served by content TDS will increase student performance as measured by STAAR Stanford/Aprenda. • The number of TEA improvement required campuses will be reduced by 50%.

HISD Professional Support & Development 2013-2014 Goal: PSD Staff Satisfaction • Professional Support & Development team members will indicate an overall 90% or better level of satisfaction on the End of Year research-based Gallup all staff survey as an indicator of team orientation and retention.
