How sedimentary rock is formed… • Sedimentary rock is layers of strata. Sedimentary rock is also an example of shale ,limestone ,sandstone and many more types of rocks. • Ex. Grand canyon
What is a fossil fuel???? • A fossil fuel is a non-renewable source of energy. It is made by dead plants and animals, and their decomposed bodies that were under the earth for long periods of time. Over that time heat and pressure was added. That made oil, natural gas and coal. This is what made fossil fuels! This is an oil well.
How is coal formed???? • Coal is a brownish-blackish substance. Coal is a very abundant source. In swamps, dead plants and animals fell in and more dirt and sediment layered on top of it. Heat and pressure was added and makes what we now call coal. Coal is a non-renewable resource.
How is oil formed???? • Little animals called plankton died and sank to the ocean floor. Dirt covered the dead plankton and heat and pressure was added. This is what we call oil. Oil is a non- renewable source.
How is natural gas formed??? • Little animals called plankton died and sank to the ocean floor. Dirt covered the dead plankton and heat and pressure was added. This is what we call natural gas. Natural gas is a non- renewable source.
Vocabulary • Plankton- little animals that live in the sea • Prehistoric-very old • Non-renewable- can’t be used again • Strata- layers of rock
