Search: Visit college campuses, research colleges online, compile college list. • Reach: Your academic qualifications are below the averageadmitted; it’s important to still be realistic • Match: Your academic qualifications are the same as the average admitted • Safety: Your academic qualifications exceed the average admitted • Prepare: GPA and test scores (ACT/SAT); strive for strong grades, study for standardized tests. • Apply: Applications open August 1st for UCs, October 1st for CSUs; private colleges and out of state application periods vary. Community College apps in Spring. • Financial Aid: Submit FAFSA/CA Dream Act by March 2nd of senior year. • Go: Decisions must be made by May 1st. College Application Process

Why choose a Community College? • Save $$$ • Fresh start academically • Certificate and transfer options • Ohlone College Promise Scholarship • Pays for required tuition, books, and enrollment fees for two years at Ohlone - a value of approximately $3,600. • GPA requirement. *Requires additional application • California College Promise Free Tuition/Book Program • Available for first-time, full-time students for the first year (up to 30 units) of their academic program. It covers the enrollment fees and mandatory fees for the fall and spring semesters only. *Must apply for financial aid • California College Promise Grant (formerly BOG waiver) • Covers enrollment fees for low-income students. *Must apply for financial aid. Gain more time, once accepted, to look for housing and otherwise prepare for college. • Cons: Do not have the opportunity to compare financial aid awards from other colleges. If applying ED and you’re accepted, you must attend that college. • Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) • Offers students a reduced rate tuition, instead of out of state tuition • Available for most out of state colleges in the West • Must meet GPA requirements Out of state & private colleges • *cost varies depending on campus and housing
