Operations at PS Elements for discussion Luca Latronico luca.latronico@pi.infn.it GLAST LAT CU Beam Test Workshop II June 28-30 2006
Expected outcome from the workshop • Initial setup at PS is critical • First check of CU and whole setup after transportation (no time/space to do it before beam start) • Provide the procedure for SPS installation (allocated beam time much less at SPS!) • Proposal for installation: • Define parallel task and groups, e.g. • CU installation crew (mechanical) • CU electrical connections • AD installation crew (mechanical+electrical) • INFN-Bari in close connection with CU crew • DAQ and Online, PCs • Before CU installation? Check with CERN
Proposed general plan • Assumption: no major changes between setups (order of ½ hour) • Change pressure and thresholds in cerenkov • Remove silicon chambers • Remove dump • Position EM cal • Beam settings require more time to understand effects of changes) • 1st week: • CU installation and cross-check after transportation • Define procedure • Test DAQ sync and stream merge with different rates • Beam studies to feedback simulations (requested this morning) • CAL, ACD calibrations • Need short runs, maybe use the first test for data taking • AD installation and check in parallel • Test DAQ, detectors • Tagger calibration • Require specific runs in conjunction with CU
Proposed general plan • 2nd and 3rd week: photon runs • Beams of 3GeV, 1GeV, 500MeV with same tagger geometry • Change geometry to 100MeV-specific geometry (500MeV, max field) require new calibration • If more time take more data at 2GeV • 4th week: • 1 or 2 days of 10GeV protons as to get required statistics • Positrons till the end (require more statistics, different MMS thickness for background evaluation) • Nicola suggestion: setup studies at the beginning • We will know if all proposed configurations are feasible • Will release pressure on people as more will be able to switch configuration
Required information and outcome • Required elements • Calibration procedures • Debug tools and quick reconstruction for calibrations • Online define list • Offline define list • Presence of people to coordinate shift and expert support • Homework for run-coordinator • Circulate a detailed proposal for setup and operations
