Why: • AAPM 2017-03 Guidelines and Rationale for Campus Tenure-track lines • This policy intends to facilitate the achievement of Goal #1, Objective A, Strategy #1 in the 2014-2020 University Strategic Plan: “Conduct a comprehensive faculty flow data analysis of tenured and tenure-track faculty in order to develop a campus multi-year plan of faculty hiring.”
Why continued: • WASC Accreditation reaffirmed • Recommendation for further development: • #3 “Continue to develop and implement financially sustainable faculty hiring and allocation plans.”
Purpose: • To provide a framework for decision-making, a framework for resource allocation and offer an aspirational college vision mapped out with goals and objectives. • To ensure a collaborative and transparent process • To provide information to the President for data-informed budget decisions and a commitment to a university-wide five-year faculty hiring plan
Who: • Beginning with discussions among departmental faculty • Chairs discuss their 5-year department plans with College council of Chairs • Deans, with the Chairs input, develop a rolling Five-Year Hiring Plan for the College • 5year Fac Rec College template 11-15-2018 v1.2.pdf
When: • This plan is to be implemented over time, gearing up for this cycle (searches during 2019/20), with a completed structure in place for searches happening in 2020/21. • October 2019: Departments develop/revise 5-year hiring plans including rationale for proposed recruitments based on quantitative and qualitative
How: • Procedures for Development, Submission and Approval of Recruitment Requests (disseminated via email to Senators) • CSUDH Procedures for Faculty Recruitment Requests 2020-21 v1.2.pdf • Shared with the Academic Affairs Council, and the Senate Executive Committee • We welcome more input from the larger body of Senate. Please be sure it is discussed in your departments.
Next steps: • Implementation is in process, with full production mode in October 2019. • The Office of University Effectiveness, Planning & Analytics is developing tools with which departments can obtain necessary data. • The procedures will be refined.
