How to trim study models • Soak base in rubber mixing bowl for 5 minutes • Place model base on counter and check to see if base is parallel to counter • Trim base • Return to counter to check for paralellism • Trim other model to this stage • Place models together in occlusion w/ wax bite • Check again for parallelism
Next…. Check models: which one has the teeth that are most distal? Take that model and draw a line w/ a red pencil behind the retromolar area Trim to the line
Then Put models back in occlusion and trim together
Side cuts With pencil mark outward from middle of mandibular premolars to edge of model and the maxillary cuspids in the same manner. Draw line running parallel to teeth at greated depth of vestibule from molars to premolars (about 5 mm from buccal surface). Mark both models. Trim each model to pencil line, one at a time
Maxillary model • Mark dot at midline of max. model vestibule area. Use a ruler-draw straight line from dot to canine on each quadrant. • Make cuts following lines
Mandibular model • Model is trimmed rounded from canine to canine. Mark w/ pencil at anterior vestibule as guide. • Trim to marks
Heel Cuts Small cuts where side and back meets Mark heel cuts-3/8-5/8 inches Turn base up Draw 90 degree angle across base opposite anterior area
