What the Presidents Assembly Does: • Presidents Assembly Steering Committee is responsible for: • Serving as “voice of the chapters” on the National Board and facilitating communications between National and the chapters • Facilitating chapter collaboration/information sharing via webinars • Creating a community of chapter leaders • Helping chapter leaders with strategic planning, problem resolution, etc.

New Member Recruiting & Membership RetentionRachael Bender • New Member Recruiting • Develop a WBO list from local government sources (city, county occupational licenses); and WOB certifying agencies • Use strategic partnerships with other groups like Women in Construction, Association for Women Lawyers • Target women in diverse industries and women with larger companies • Offer different programming for larger businesses like CEO Roundtables • Target younger women business owners • Focus on companies who have been in business for 3+ years • Use discount coupons for event registration (Can be given away at an event table, or in an email to a specific list, etc.)

Ask them to let the group know what they are doing now. Former members who left the organization because of a business sale, may have started new companies. • Reward members for bringing in new members or guests. Free meal at next meeting, praise them at the meeting. • Member referral contest • Great local discount program • Members and corporate partners offer members-only discounts. • Survey guests who have attended meetings to find out why they didn’t join.
New Member Recruiting & Membership RetentionRachael Bender • Member Retention • Remember that retention starts the moment they join not at renewal! • New member reception (new members & board members) • Ask members why did you join NAWBO and how can NAWBO better serve you? • Have events for legacy (long-term) members • Create a role for past leadership that is an honor for them to do (but not time-consuming) • Create additional vehicles of engagement – book clubs, satellite social groups (for chapters with a large geographic area) • Have a membership committee call on members up for renewal at least 3 months prior to renewal date • Create a buddy or mentoring system

Successes & Challenges of NAWBO ChaptersPatsy Foxworth & Janet South San Antonio Successes: • Membership Ambassadors – Our membership chair has set up a team to meet and greet everyone at our monthly meetings. • Membership Chair calls and welcomes all new members and sets a face-to-face meeting with them to go over how to get the most out of your NAWBO membership. • Membership Committee follows-up for the first three months with all new members to make sure they are “feeling good” about their membership. • Membership Committee reaches out to all renewing members 60-90 days prior to their membership renewal time to make sure they “feel good” about their membership. • Membership Committee has a new program where they select from our Chapter Membership, one business owner to profile and highlight every week on our Chapter Facebook Page and in our monthly e-letter. We are also adding an annual award for the NAWBO Member of the Year.
Successes & Challenges of NAWBO ChaptersPatsy Foxworth & Janet South San Antonio Successes cont.: • Board Meetings – are held at our Corporate Partners’ locations. We allow the CP to present to the board for about 5 minutes. Telling us about them and what is going on in their world. Each Board Member gets to introduce themselves and their business to the CP (round robin style – 30 second elevator speech). • Corporate Partners – we’ve asked our CP’s to participate on committees. This has been very successful and our CP’s have really enjoyed this and have stepped up to the plate with some great ideas and involvement. • Meetings – not being cliquish. We turned this around with the Ambassador Program. Creating a welcoming atmosphere. The response has been great. • Variety of programs for members to engage with each other – Business Networking Breakfast; Lunch Connections; Cocktail Connections and special socials.
Successes & Challenges of NAWBO ChaptersPatsy Foxworth & Janet South San Antonio Challenges: • Getting more people to volunteer for committees. • To meet this challenge, we have initiated the Ambassador Program with our Membership Committee as an out reach to members to get them involved. • Meeting with members face-to-face has helped to get more volunteers into committees. • It is also an educational process – reminding members that the best way to get the most out of their membership is to get involved. • Getting people to RSVP for events early – they tend to wait until the last minute (day before). • To get people to register earlier for events, we have started an early-bird drawing • We do a series of emails to remind and engage members and Corporate Partners in order to RSVP early • We have initiated a Corporate Partner (CP) Liaison Program. This program has one Board Representative responsible for a particular Corporate Partner. That Liaison is to make contact (email and phone calls) to the CP to get their list of people who are attending events and also to make them aware of any special events going on. They also find out from our CP’s what is going on in their businesses.

Successes & Challenges of NAWBO ChaptersThree Top Tips • Indianapolis – Make sure you have a good structure in place; always be aware of your brand; and engage your members in the process. • San Antonio – Be consistent; develop and communicate your benefits; and make sure you deliver what you say you will. • Louisville – Maintain the personal calls – the warm touch; ask what they need; communicate with them.
Using Social Media to Grow Your Chapter • Use Social Media to tell a story – • Why does your chapter exist? • Why are you a member? • Why are you involved? • Feature a member in your social media posts • Use different types of posts – status updates, pictures, videos, links, questions, polls, events • Make sure you respond to any comments • Comment on your member’s pages as your chapter • Have your members post testimonials of other members on the chapter Facebook, LinkedIn or other social media page. • Ask board members to all contribute to the social media effort. • Use a Social Media calendar
Using Social Media to Grow Your Chapter • Most chapters find Facebook fan pages to be a better choice than a group page. • Fan pages are indexed by Google and are open to all • On Facebook tag other pages like the local newspaper, other organizations in your post. This will then show up on their wall. • Find your chapter’s social media addict and ask them to manage your accounts • LinkedIn Group pages and Twitter are not as actively used. • Meetup.com groups have been a successful way to reach potential new members. • Advanced Social Media Tools: • Hootsuite.com – Manage multiple social media accounts, schedule updates in one dashboard, enhanced analytics. $9.99 /month unlimited accounts, Free up to 5 profiles (w/out the enhanced analytics). • Sproutsocial.com - Manage multiple accounts, schedule updates, enhanced analysis. $39 /month • Useful with Media Calendar!
