PHYSICAL, SKILL RELATED and MENTAL FITNESS • The aspects of fitness fall under 3 headings. Can you work out where each one goes?
CARDIO RESPIRATORY ENDURANCE • CARDIO = RESPIRATORY = • Cardio respiratory endurance = the ability of the heart and lungs to work continuously for an extended period of time. • CRE can be measured using the bleep test
Cardio respiratory endurance (CRE) is important in any activity that lasts longer than a few minutes eg. football, basketball, hockey, netball. • Having good CRE means • 1 you can work longer or harder before getting exhausted • 2 you can do the same amount of work with less effort • 3 you recover from exercise quicker CRE can be improved through training. Regular training in your TRAINING ZONE results in your heart becoming bigger and stronger, and you can breathe in more air with each breath
TRAINING ZONE If you are 16 years old your training zone is between 122 and 173. To improve your fitness you must train in your training zone for at least 20 minutes, 3 times per week.
GROUP ACTIVITY PHYSICAL ASPECTS OF FITNESS • Each group will be given a different aspect of physical fitness • For your aspect of fitness you must write: • 1. A definition • 2. A test to measure this aspect of fitness • 3. A method of training you might use to improve this aspect of fitness • 4. A sport where this aspect of fitness is important. CHOOSE ONE PERSON IN YOUR GROUP TO WRITE AND ONE PERSON TO PRESENT YOUR ANSWER TO THE REST OF THE CLASS.
