Heat Pumps By: Kwok Lee 20198251 Objective: To give a basic understanding of heat pumps generally and how it functions.
What is Heat Pump? • A system that transports heat around • The most common type of heat pump is the geothermal heat pump. Other kinds include gas compression, thermoelectric and also phase change heat pumps • Can be used year round • Designs are improving and becoming more common to the public
How does it work? • Generally, heat pumps compresses the heat existed in the air into a small concentrated area. • The concentrated heat is then moved to a place where it is less heated, so that heat is given off until equilibrium is reached. • The air then moved back to where it is originated and expand to again absorb heats in the atmosphere. • This process is continuously repeated as long as the heat pump is operating.
Benefits • Fuel is not acquired, and therefore safer and more environmental beneficial • Conserves fossil fuels • Uses less energy to produce more heat • Consistent temperature over the whole atmosphere • Preserves a higher humidity in the environment • More efficient and economical than other kinds of heating • Can be use perpetually and for a long term • Works year round and compatible in almost all environments
Conclusion Heat pump is a very good system environmentally, economically, and by any means. Reference: http://home.howstuffworks.com/question49.htm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heat_pump
