Objectives • As a result of this training you will be able to identify multiplication facts correctly. • You will also be able to list factors. • After the training, you will be able to simplify fractions into their lowest or simplest form.
Multiplication Review • We first need to begin with our multiplication facts. Remember at the beginning of the year we made multiplication raps??? Click on the icon below to refresh your memory. Click me!
More Multiplication • Let’s test our knowledge. I want all of you to race in the Diaper Derby! Click on the baby…Good Luck!
If you thought that was easy…Click the answer box and see if you are right. • 12 x 8 = • A- 72 • B- 84 • C- 96
THINK AGAIN! • Try it again!
Another… • 7 x 6 = • A- 42 • B- 49 • C- 38
THINK AGAIN! • Try it again!
Who remembers factors? • Remember factors are all of the numbers that can be multiplied together to get the number. • 1 and itself are ALWAYS the first set of factors. Then, you must try 2, 3, 4 and so on. • If the number is divisible evenly, it is a factor. • For instance: • What are the factors of 24? • 1, 24 ( 1 x 24 ) • 2, 12 ( 2 x 12 ) • 3, 8 ( 3 x 8 ) • 4, 6 ( 4 x 6 ) The factors of 24 are: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, and 24
What are the factors? • What are the factors of 24? • 1 can be multiplied by 24 to get 24. • 2 can be multiplied by 12 to get 24. • 3 can be multiplied by 8 to get 24. • 4 can be multiplied by 6 to get 24. • What are NOT factors of 24? • 3 cannot be multiplied by a number to get 24. • 5 cannot be multiplied by a number to get 24. • 7 cannot be multiplied by a number to get 24. • The factors of 24 are 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, and 24.
Try it on your own! • What are the factors of 40? • 1 and what number? • 2 and what number? • 4 and what number? • 5 and what number? Check to see if your are right! • The factors of 40 are 1, 2, 4, 5, 8, 10, 20, and 40.

Task • I would like you to go onto my website and send me an email. List ALL of the factors for the following numbers. • 80 - 35 - 64 • 25 - 81 - 49 • 24 - 72 - 42 • 39 - 56 - 12
Greatest Common Factor • Now that we know our factors. Let’s look at listing factors for two numbers together. 24 and 36 24- 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, 24 36- 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 9, 12, 18, 36 Look at what is COMMON in both.
Pick out the GCF Ok! We can see what we have in common. Now out of those numbers, what is the largest? 24- 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 12 36- 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 12 12
Let’s start simplifying fractions. • Now that we have reviewed everything let’s begin simplifying fractions. • When given a fraction like 4/6, we need to see if it can be simplified. • First you have list the factors of the denominator AND numerator: • 4- 1, 2, 4 • 6- 1, 2, 3, 6 What’s the GCF?
Now that we know 2 is the GCF, we need to simplify our fraction. • Our original fraction 4/6 can be simplified. Take the GCF, 2, and divide it into the numerator and denominator.
4/6 • 4 divided by 2 = 2 • 6 divided by 2 = 3
So our answer is.. • 3\2 • 2/3 If you chose 2/3 you are correct!
