How not to respond • Anger and jealousy
We are agitated because • We think God is being unjust • We think God is being inconsistent • We want what the wicked have and we don’t (though we think we deserve it more than they) so we are jealous and irritated
Anger can lead to sin • Because we might be tempted to believe that God doesn’t actually exist and give up on our faith
Anger can lead to sin • We might give up doing good altogether • we might be tempted to try our luck and flirt with evil deeds. It may start small, but it may escalate and completely lead us astray
There is absolutely no need to get agitated and angry • Because though the wicked flourish for a little while, they will wither and be destroyed
Side comments about Wicked people prospering • The so called “wicked” people might not actually be “wicked” • God delaying judgement on the wicked because he wishes to give them opportunity to repent • Prosperity could actually be God’s judgement
How should Christians respond to wicked people prospering in this world? • Meditate on the ending for the wicked • soon passed away and was no more (v36) • No future (v38) • Be completely destroyed (v28, 34, 38 etc)
How should Christians respond to wicked people prospering in this world? • Meditate on the blessings of the righteous • Will inherit the land (v9 v11 v29) • Enjoy peace and prosperity (v11) • Under the Lord’s care (v17, 18) • Inheritance endure forever (v18) • Will not wither will enjoy plenty (v19) • May stumble but will not fall (v24) • Not be forsaken or children be begging bread (v25)
