TYPES OF FLORIDAEDUCATOR CERTIFICATES TEMPORARY 3 YEAR NON-RENEWABLE • Bachelor’s Degree with a Major in the Content Area • Bachelor’s Degree with Required Courses and 2.5GPA in the content area • Bachelor’s Degree with a Passing Score on the Subject Area Exam • Bachelor’s Degree with a Valid Certificate • issued by ABCTE (American Board for Certification of Teacher Excellence)

TYPES OF FLORIDAEDUCATOR CERTIFICATES PROFESSIONAL 5 YEAR RENEWABLE • Valid Standard Certificate issued by another state • Valid Certificate issued by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) • Teacher Education Degree Program and Passing Florida Certification Examinations

  4. ROUTES TO CERTIFICATION • The four major routes to Florida Certification are outlined on the next four slides

  5. I. Graduate of an approved Florida Education Program • TRADITIONAL ROUTE • Must have “state approved education program stamp” on official transcripts • Must have passed ALL tests required for professional certificate • NO PEC(professional educator competence) program required • Eligible for Professional Educator’s Certificate

  6. II. Fast Track (FULL Reciprocity) • A VALID standard educator’s certificate issued by another state (that meets DOE eligibility requirements) or valid certificate issued by NBPTS • NOPECprogram required • NO testing required • Eligible for Professional Educator’s Certificate

  7. III. In or Out of State with limited/no teaching experience • May have completed teacher education program from another state • May hold temporary or provisional certificate that does NOT meet DOE eligibility requirements for a professional certificate) • Does not have internship or student teaching on transcript- PEC PROGRAM REQUIRED • Little or NO teaching experience • ALL Tests required (MUST pass all portions of the General Knowledge Test in the first year of their teaching assignment or they cannot be rehired, as per statute) • ELIGIBLE FOR 3 YEAR TEMPORARY NON-RENEWABLE CERTIFICATE

IVNON-EDUCATOR TRANINED/CAREER CHANGE • Bachelor’s or higher degree with a major in a certifiable subject area from accredited college/university OR • Bachelor’s or higher degree in any subject area AND passing score on subject area exam in area of certification applied for • Official transcripts with seal, degree conferral and date • 2.5 GPA in area of certification applied for • MUST PEC or ACT (during first year of teaching experience) • MUST pass all tests required by Florida DOE (MUST pass all portions of the General Knowledge Test in the first year of their teaching assignment or they cannot be rehired, as per statute) • MUST meet all other DOE requirements listed on the Official Statement of Status of Eligibility within 3 year validity period.

FLORIDA CERTIFICATION • APPLY ON LINE @www.fldoe.org/edcert • Apply for area of certification which you are eligible • $56 per subject area • Need official transcripts with degree conferral from each college/university attended. • Foreign Transcripts must have official translation • Out of State certified teachers must provide front/back notarized copy of original certificate.
