Impact of Diversity on the Education of Exceptional Children • As our population becomes more diverse, our assessment and educational procedures must also become more diverse. • Variety of disabilities • Variety of ethnic backgrounds • Variety of family structures • Variety of student orientations and lifestyles

  5. Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC) • Braille Literacy • Licensed Counseling Services • Communication • Daily Living Skills (DLS) • Orientation and Mobility (O&M) • Recreation and Leisure • Social Skills • Speech Therapy • Vision Services • Vocational Skills Training

  6. Transition Services • Transition to after-school life is our primary concern; we work with a variety of community agencies to develop realistic post-exit plans.

  7. Residential Services • With our 24-hour IEP, students can practice adaptive skills with knowledgeable staff before and after school hours.

  8. How do we educate our children with multiple exceptionalities • Individualized Education Plan • a team of professionals • parent and student participation • community involvement • outside agency contacts The IEP process should be fluid and fun!
