  2. What I have learned so far… The Walt Disney Company was created October 16, 1923 Today Disney is the worlds largest entertainment and media company. No Matter Who Takes The Oscars, Disney Already Won This Year (Image credit: AFP/Getty Images via @daylife) 2/24/2013 @ 9:30PM Dan Bigman, Forbes Staff An hour or so into this year’s Academy Awards broadcast it’s already long enough to surmise that this year’s telecast probably won’t be a whole lot better or more tasteful or entertaining than any other recent broadcast. But no matter. The Walt Disney Company, which owns ABC, is already a winner thanks to the astounding prices they brought in for advertising on the show. Despite a downturn in ratings over the past few years, an uptick in interest last year helped ABC sell out the entire broadcast more than three weeks ago. And they got great rates — collecting $1.7 million to $1.85 million per 30-second spot, according to the LA Times. That’s particularly good news for Disney: In 2011 the network made the pricey decision to continue hosting the Oscars telecast through 2020. For better or worse, the Oscars are theirs for the rest of the decade. They better hope people made it past the Bond montage tonight. (
