Guiding Principles • Encourage sportsmanship • Understand and respect the rules • Develop modesty in victory and courage in defeat • Control emotions and speech • Encourage a spirit of cooperation and teamwork • Develop our children into real, true citizens
● Coaches who make negative comments or argue shall immediately be ejected from the game. Being ejected carries an automatic two game suspension. ● Players who argue or engage in negative behavior shall be immediately ejected from the game. The player must serve an automatic 1 game suspension. ● Parents / Fans who argue or engage in negative behavior (complaining, yelling, taunting, etc.) shall be removed from the field. Parents must stay in the stands at all times. ● Any activity that becomes physical or involves a physical threat will result in an immediate, indefinite suspension for any adult involved. ● Players involved in any physical misconduct will face a 2 game suspension. ● An umpire’s decision on balls & strikes is FINAL. No pets are allowed on/around the fields • No smoking is allowed on any school property • No alcohol • No parking on the grass at Soule • No parking in the fire lanes at Woodbury Town Rules

League Provides: • Game T-Shirt with number and sponsor name for players and coaches. • What you will need: • Game pants & a mouth guard. • What is suggested: • Cleats, Sliding Shorts, Face Guard & Sliding Pad. • A mouth guard is MANDATORY for all players to prevent possible mouth/dental and concussion injuries!!! You should have extras available! • These local retailers sell game pants and mouth guards:Walmart, Target, Olympia Sports, Monkey Sports& Dick’s Sporting Goods. Uniforms
What the League provides: • Bats, Helmets, Catcher’s Gear, Softballs • What you will need • Fielding glove • What is suggested additionally • Batting gloves • Each team is provided with softballs for the season. • A player may bring her/his own bat, gear, and or helmet. Helmets must have a face mask. • Pitchers, 1B and 3B are REQUIRED to wear a facemask, this is a Babe Ruth rule. Each coach’s bag will have multiple facemasks, but you can buy one yourself for about $40. Equipment
T-Ball • Stay on the T: Hitting a pitched ball is not fundamental for this level. • Games will move along faster to maintain young player’s interest. • Teaches proper batting, running, fielding, throwing, & basic game elements. • All players bat, even if not playing in the field. • Inning is over after 3 outs OR 5 runs are scored, or everyone bats. • 8u • Coach/Machine pitch. This improves defense, keeps the game moving, and matches tournament guidelines. Pitching machines are used in tournaments. • No base stealing is allowed. • Inning is over after 3 outs OR 5 runs are scored. The 6th inning is unlimited scoring. • All players bat, even if not playing in the field • Potential Pitchers and Catchers are encouraged to start taking outside lessons and attend clinics to develop pitching and catching skills. Division Fundamentals
Division Fundamentals • 10u: • Introduces stealing and sliding. • Uses Babe Ruth rules from the rule book. • Emphasizes correct throwing, fielding and batting. • Inning is over after 3 outs OR 5 runs are scored. Unlimited 6th inning. • All players bat, even if not in the game. • Standings are kept and used for seeding in the playoffs. • If you aren’t safe at certain positions, you won’t be put there. • If you aren’t taking pitching lessons, or don’t have the ability to throw strikes via legal pitching methods, you’re unlikely to pitch. • If you need names of instructors for pitching lessons, see a board member after the assembly • 12u: • Concept of dropped third strike. • Emphasizes situational play & uses Babe Ruth rules from the rule book. • Continues emphasis on correct throwing, fielding and batting. • Inning is over after 3 outs OR 5 runs are scored. Unlimited 7th inning. • All players bat, even if not in the game.

Practices will start as soon as the town clears us to use the fields. We are aiming for the week of April 15th to start practices and scrimmages, then practices over vacation, then games with other towns in May. We may add in-town games before April vacation if the fields are open sooner than expected. • Field Clean up / Equipment Pick up Day: Sat April 13 • Bring rakes, wheelbarrows, shovels, brooms, leaf blower, grasping tools, trash bags, tie wraps and gloves if possible. • Playoffs June 10-14 for 8u-12u. Tag Days: April 5-7 • You can choose your location and time online again this year, first come first served. • Stay tuned for signup date & time • Dress for the weather, as you will be outside • Where to meet: • The Blockhouse behind Woodbury School • Check in 15 minutes before your scheduled time • When you are done: • Return to the blockhouse & check out. Hand in your container • Can I opt out? Is it mandatory? • Yes you can opt out, but you must pay a $60 fee to make up for the money we’d lose by you not tagging. Other Key Dates
Concussions: What a player reports: • Headache or “pressure” in head • Nauseous/vomiting • Balance problems/dizziness • Double or blurred vision • Light and/or noise sensitivity • Feels sluggish, hazy, foggy • Confused • Trouble focusing/ staying on task • “I feel down” or “I just don’t feel right”
Hydration • Dress appropriately • WATER and Gatorade • Water is only appropriate for up to 50 minutes of play time in the heat. >50 mins need to replace electrolytes • Light snack of carbs (cereal, wheat bread, oatmeal, pasta, vegetables, fruit) before play • If you are thirsty, you are ALREADY dehydrated
Heat Exhaustion/Heat Stroke….What to Do: • Move person to flat, cool, shaded area • Remove excess clothing • Spray/douse with water (evaporation is your friend to bring down temperature!) • Ice packs to underarms, forehead • Elevate legs • Give fluids if conscious DO NOT GIVE FLUIDS TO AN UNCONSCIOUS PERSON
First Aid Kits are in every coach’s bag • Every player needs to fill out a medical form that the coach retains in case of emergency (Will be emailed this week.) • Tell your coach if your child has an allergy or medical condition, and if she carries an Epi-Pen. • Monitor your child for injury/condition • Help in an emergency: get the kit, call 911 if needed, direct EMS to area
Larry Keber Award Given to a person or group who has gone above and beyond to help make the Salem Girls Softball League even better. Named after a true gentleman who spent countless hours teaching the youth of Salem the game of softball and the art of pitching.

Presidential Award The Presidential Award is chosen by the League President, to honor a person or group who exemplifies the meaning behind Salem NH Softball: Caring, Support, & Dedication.
