ERP Presentation Danny Aramouni Boynton Beach Motorola March 22, 2001
Introduction • Danny Aramouni • Florida Atlantic University • B.S. Electrical Engineering • Engineering Rotation Program (ERP)
ERP Entrance • March 9 - ERP Interviews Window • Thursday, May 4 - Quit FPL (co-op) • Friday, May 5 - Graduated from FAU • Monday, May 8 - Started at Motorola
Overview • Past Work Experiences • Why did I become an Engineer? • Joining the ERP • Rotation Experiences • ERP Involvement • Future Plans • Interests and Conclusion
Past Work Experiences • Florida Power & Light - Co-op • Protection and Control • Substations - Reliability Group • Controls & Advanced Technologies • Albertson's Supermarket • Asst. Customer Service Manager for six years
Why did I become an Engineer? • Always liked Science and Mathematics • Like learning new things • Love the challenges • Chose FAU to stay local
Joining the ERP • Gain a wide variety of experiences • Find out where I’ll be the most productive • Meet and work with high level managers • Establish Contacts • Training
First Rotation • Manufacturing - TOP • Product Engineer • Supervisor: David Narducci • Mentors: George Douglas Bob Schneider
Responsibilities • Tested and analyzed PageWriter product factory failure modes. • Performed various experiments on PageWriter BER performance in the Anechoic Chamber.
Project Accomplishment • Performed antenna propagation of all two-way pagers to determine optimum condition for antennas placement in factory RF fixture (box).
2-way Pagers Antennas PageWriter Transmitting Patch Antenna Lynx/Dragon Chip Antenna (Tx & Rx) PageWriter Receiving Loop Antenna
Conclusion from Radiation Pattern Measurements • Determined the best antenna position (0 degrees) to be on top in the RF box for all 2-way paging products • To replace the existing loop antenna with a fixed circular polarized antenna for both Tx and Rx
Results of the Implementation • Improved BER Failures Tremendously • Cut NTF failures by 50% • Provided fixed antenna solution for 2-way paging products
Technical Competence Gained • Troubleshooting and schematic interpretation skills • DOE knowledge using the Anechoic Chamber • Technical expertise in antenna propagation and design • Extensive knowledge of manufacturing process
Second Rotation • Smart & Connected: SW Tools & Testing • Supervisor: Hakam Fathi • Mentors: Sean Borak Kevin Culigen
SW Tools Responsibilities • Assisted in the Executing of Mosaic V3.0 System Test • Designed new Mosaic Chart Engine
What is Mosaic? • Software project management metric tool • Collects, stores, and analyzes Data from a web browser • Offers automated solutions in managing metric data • Provide the latest up to date information about any project http://engpub.pts.mot.com/proj/mosaic
Designing New Mosaic Chart Engine Project • Designed the chart engine using Macromedia Flash 5 with Generator2 • Creates interactive Web sites with sophisticated charts, graphs, and tables • Access databases through XML support
Reasons For New Chart Engine? • Past charts (Java Applet ) were not supported by Netscape • Slow to download • Some charts were not even supported by IE • A lot of steps was involved in creating charts
Results of the New Chart Engine Implementation • Instead of using long code of program, now use Data files • Great graphical effects • Supported by any browser • Faster to download • More flexible
Testing Rotation Responsibility • Develop test cases for Odin Project focusing on User Interface.
Canceled • Develop test cases for Odin Project focusing on User Interface.
Technical Competence Gained • Learned Flash 5 and Generator 2 programming • Gained software expertise in developing code in Java Script and XML for web page applications • Developed skills in writing User Requirements and Test Cases for system applications
Third Rotation • MacAllan & Camelot RF Development Team • Supervisor: Gene Santana • Mentors: Bryan Soukup Paul Morningstar
MacAllan Camelot
Responsibilities • Performed various tests & experiments using GSM test equipment • Measured EIRP, SAR, and Antenna Gain performance in BB Chamber, Quantum BCDC labs, and Plantation’s Antenna Research lab • Demonstrated understanding of RF, GSM-GPRS fundamentals, and development process through phasing, component matching, FTA process, and test of products
Projects Accomplishment • Microstrip Board Dielectric constant experiment • RF/SMA connectors experiment
Technical Competence Gained • Gained knowledge of the GSM protocol by using the HP8922, CMU 200, and the superbench station to perform GSM product testing • Testing and evaluating antenna performance in the anechoic chamber • RF, GSM, and GPRS technical development • Increased interest in RF
ERP Involvement • Community Services • T900’s Demo sales • Volunteer Steering Committee • ERP’s Mailing Lists
Future Plans • Complete 4th Rotation and Place out • Masters Degree in Computer Engineering • possible MBA
Interests and Conclusion • Enjoy playing Soccer • Scuba Diving • Very Friendly and Helpful • Like to meet people from different culture
