  2. The UAI Most students are admitted to the University on UAI only However we do offer an alternative entry pathway – Flexible Entry Scheme 2

  3. What is the Flexible Entry Scheme Flexible Entry is aimed at current school leavers whose UAI may fall up to five points below the normal cut-off for entry into certain courses. 3

  4. About Flexible Entry For most courses there is no need to make a special application – it is assessed automatically by the faculty For some courses it requires an application, due 7 January 2009. 4

  5. About Flexible Entry Not all faculties participate in this scheme Flexible Entry is available in: Arts; Agriculture, Food & Natural Resources; Architecture; Design Computing; Engineering; Health Sciences; Information Technologies; Media & Communications; Science. 5

  6. Flexible Entry Selection Criteria Selection criteria differs from faculty to faculty – relevant subjects, portfolio, interview, online registration. This selection criteria enables us to look at additional, more comprehensive ways of assessing student’s suitability for entry to certain courses. 6

  7. Why Flexible Entry? We are interested in the student’s aptitude for the course such as motivation for choosing the degree, any extra work experience the student may have had, and performance in relevant subjects in years 11 & 12. 7

  8. Flexible Entry - Engineering “Students should be looked at holistically; able to show community activity, sport and leadership as well as academic achievement. Employers often seek these attributes in our graduates as these people fit more easily into their workforce and are more productive. We do not use bonus points for subjects or other numerical schemes based on academic achievement, these are already encapsulated in the UAI. We assess applicants on these broader factors to determine likely success in Engineering and Information Technology.” Flexible Entry Matrix 8

Working with our Flexible Entry We understand that you have found Flexible Entry to be a complex scheme for a number of reasons: Lack of clarity in the selection criteria Difficulty with getting specific information on how applications are assessed The ‘flexible’ nature of this scheme is a strength, but also makes it confusing to applicants 9
