Schools-Families-Housing Community Grants Program Priorities • Increase incentives to attend and stay in schools and neighborhoods • helping stabilize housing • increasing attendance • Increase student connection to school and learning • helping improve achievement, attendance, youth-adult relationships • increasing leaders and advocates for young people and public education
Schools-Families-HousingCommunity Grants Program The Basics • $850,000 total ($5K up to $75K) • Non-profits, schools, and public entities can apply • 1st Deadline: 1/22/07, Awards 3/07 • 2nd Deadline: 4/1/07, Awards 5/07
How To Write A Successful Application • Address one or both priority areas • Identify clear target population(s), and your connection to this community • Demonstrate organizational capacity and leadership • Identify clear, measurable results given your proposed timeframe • Base your proposal on research
How To Write A Successful Application • Leverage other resources • Demonstrate understanding of connections between stable housing, student success, and family mobility • Collaborate across systems
Given the research, particular attention goes to… Efforts addressing: • High student and family mobility • Communities of color • Immigrants and refugees • Low-income and homeless families • High student turnover during summer • Collaboration among different systems
Your proposal should include… • Application cover page with contact information • Proposal of no more than 7 typed pages, which includes: *Narrative (up to 5 pages) *One-page budget *One-page budget narrative • Any additional letters of support or collaboration (See Page 4, Question 4 of Request for Proposal)
