  1. Fourth Joint Coordinating Committee (JCC) Meeting of SATREPS-MCCOE Project Progress Report of Output 4 :Meteorogical and Oceanographical Data UripHaryoko Database Centre - BMKG

  2. INTERNATIONAL ISSUES DUE TO CLIMATE DATA • Modern climate management system • Data rescue • Data quality control

  3. OUTLINE • Background • Climate database status in BMKG • Data rescue • Data quality control • Climate database integration • Data availability

  4. BACKGROUND • Climate data would be everlasting used • NHMS is a largest data producer than another institution • The output of all resource of NHMS (human resource, fund, instrument, building, etc.) is data……and information • Prediction might be false, but data must be correct.

  5. CLIMATE DATABASE STATUS IN BMKG Source of climate data : • 173 Met, Clim, Geo Stasion • 192 Automatic Weather Station (AWS) • 121 Automatic Raingauge (ARG) • >5000 Volunteer raingauge • 96 Agromet station • 65Agromet AWS • 25 radar • Satellite receiver (updated 2012)

  7. DATA RESCUE

  8. Data rescue process WCDMP No 60

  9. DATA RESCUE ACTIVITIES • Met & Geo data rescue (BMKG) • Climate data rescue (data for 1860-1970) : collaboration on DIDAH Project (BMKG - KNMI) • Climate data rescue (data for 1970- 2012) : collaboration on DATACLIM Project (BMKG - GIZ) • OUTPUT : complete and valid daily climate data

  10. Data document (hard copy) BMKG DATA RESCUE BEFORE Data storage

  11. Data rescue in process SYNOPTIC DATA SEISMOGRAM

  12. Catalog of synop data

  13. AFTER DATA LIBRARY

  14. BMKG – KNMI DATA RESCUE(DIDAH PROJECT)

  15. DIGITIZATION OF HISTORICAL DATA • DAILY RAINFAL DATA (1879 -1916) • HOURLY CLIMATE DATA OF BATAVIA OBSERVATORY (1866 – 1978)

  16. OCR WORK Digital data (Ms. Excel) Image data (Jpeg)

  17. OCR Work INPUT OUTPUT OCR Work

  18. Data Recovery (publications)

  19. BMKG – GIZ DATA RESCUE FOCUSING ON :1. Daily climate data (Fklim 1970-2012)2. Daily rainfall (>5000 raingauges ,1970-2012)
