Stellar Evolution The birth, life, and death of stars.
Star Birth • Large clouds of gases and dust called nebluae are the birthplace of stars
Star Birth • Eventually, gravity causes the cloud to collapse. This flattening results in a disk-like object.
Star Birth • Pressure and temperature increases as a protostar is formed. When fusion is triggered true star is born.
Main sequence star • Most stars spend 90% of their lives in this stage • Outward gas pressure reaches balance with gravity (equalibrium)
Red Giant • Star expands and as the surface cools, it turns red. • Occurs as a result of a star running out of fuel (hydrogen)
Death of a Star • All stars, regardless of size, eventually run out of fuel and collapse. • Can form black holes, white dwarfs, supernovae, etc.
