  7. AMERICAN FEDERATION OF LABOR • Samuel Gompers: “Unions should focus their efforts towards higher wages and better working conditions.” • 1914- AFL had more than 2 million members • 1920- Union members start to decline • 1930- Great Depression

  8. LOCAL UNIONS NATIONAL UNIONS • Comprised of people who work for a specific company or in a specific area • National unions with local chapters • EX: Saw Operators Union of America INDEPENDENT UNIONS • No Affiliation • EX: National Education Association
