Floridan Aquifer Alison and Austin
Location • The Floridan Aquifer runs through South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama and Florida. • The Floridan is one of the major sources of groundwater in the US. • 82,000 miles long
Usage • More than 3 billion gallons of water are taken from the Floridan Aquifer. • In most areas it's the only source of fresh water in the area. • It also provides irrigation and mining.
Pollution • Because of over usage the water level of the Floridan Aquifer has gone down drastically. • In addition the aquifer has suffered from salt water pollution because of how they suck the water out of the aquifer. • Sadly the aquifer can not clean itself up naturally so the only way to get rid of pollutants is to pump it out.
Pollution cont; • The aquifer can not recharge itself either because of the low rainfall. • With the low rainfall, pollution and the growing population the aquifer may not last much longer.
