SPEAKER Khunying DR.NATHANON THAVISIN Permanent Secretary Bangkok Metropolitan Administration Thailand
“Due to unsustainable lifestyles as well as unsustainable consumption and production patterns, cities are facing deteriorating air quality, declining water resources in terms of quality and quantity as well as overloading of waste” BY MR RAE KWON CHUNG DIRECTOR ENVIRONMENT AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT DIVISION UNESCAP
ICT IN ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT • THERE IS AN URGENT NEED TO STRENGTHEN URBAN ENVIRONMENT INORDER TO TACKLE THESE PROBLEMS. • IN THIS PROCESS, ICT CAN MAKE A VALUABLE CONTRIBUTION TO THE IMPLEMENTATION .
Location Map of BKK China
Bangkok Metropolis is the capital city of Thailand for more than 220 years.
CITY OF BANGKOK • Rapid industrialization and urbanization have caused Bangkok to face the population growth and social problem. • The most important problems are environmental degradation related to solid waste, air and water pollution. • Increasing intensity of these problems not only causes impact on public livelihood but also causes direct impact to the health of the people.
City of Bangkok Total Area 1,575.64 km2 Inner Area 269.77 km2 Middle Area 428.20 km2 Outer Area 877.67 km2

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) For Department of Public Cleansing NONG KHEAM Transfer Station ON-NUCH Transfer Station Sanitary Landfill THA-RANG Transfer Station
Car Identifier and RFID Tag System for Solid Waste Data Collection Project RFID Tag Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Weighting Automatic Record
The reasons of ICT application on Public Cleansing burden • To collect the realistic information and solve the corruption on waste collection and transfer into 3 transfer station sites • To update and verify the report of waste arrival and departure from 3 transfer station sites • To develop the solid waste management system of BMA and enhance the efficiency of the public services and the urban environmental quality
Record the vehicle Code No. Record the vehicle Code No. Vehicle with tag (RFID Tag) Weighting Machine Vehicle without tag Signal Transformer Signal Receiver-Transmitter Record the vehicle Weight and waste weight Receiving Signal Device Receiving Signal Device Computer
The Advantages of the Project • Verify the weight of waste both arrival and departure from 3 transfer stations • Increase the efficiency of waste collection vehicles • Support the energy conservation plan (vehicle fuel) • Improve the waste collection and transportation system
Future Vision on ICT Application for Public Cleansing Burden • Close Circuit Television System (CCTV) and Remote Monitoring System (RMS) • for monitoring and inspection the event from 3 transfer station sites • For controlling the waste transportation to landfill site and prevent the residual waste left over at 3 transfer station sites • Global Positioning System (GPS Tracking System) • For controlling and checking the position of collection vehicle and working status
