Whilst writing • There was a tension for me. I was worried about ‘reducing’ the concept of person centeredness within a one day training session. • My thinking is very much influenced by my experiences. Work that NIACE has done on PCP/PCA shows; …..some providers are engaging with person-centred planning in creative and dynamic ways. However, many in post-16 education and training remain unclear in their understanding of person-centred planning and the part education should be playing in this process. Person-centred planning is often mistakenly identified as the same as Individual Learning Plans or one to one tutorials to discuss what an individual wants to learn. What are Person Centred Approaches? • ……are ways of commissioning, providing and organising services rooted in listening to what people want, to help them live in their communities as they choose. What that means for FE? • A change in attitude……… • A shift in power ………… • The lsda research showed it was far easier to sign up to the ‘idea’ of being person centred than to actually put it into practice.
