  1. Radio SettingsCurves Sylvain Marron Modèle Air Club du Mâconnais Friday, March 4th 2011

  2. Content • Stick mode • Curves • Normal • Idle Up 1 • Idle Up 2 • Hold (Throttle Hold) • Throttle curves for electric helis

  3. Mode 1 / Mode 2 • Stick mode: • Mode 1 • Mode 2 Nick(Elevator) Throttle/Pitch Rudder(Yaw) Roll(Aileron) Nick(Elevator) Throttle/Pitch Rudder(Yaw) Roll(Aileron)

  4. Curves • In RC heli Throttle and Pitch are managed on a single stick • Each stick position sets: • Throttle rate • Pitch rate • Throttle and Pitch "curves" programming. Y axis: Throttle or Pitch rate X axis: stick position (from 0 to 100%)

  5. Normal CurvesTakeoff / Hover • Throttle/Pitch stick at lowest position • - engine idles (for starting) • - Pitch ≈ 0° • Throttle/Pitch stick ↗ • - Throttle ↗ • - Pitch ↗ • Stick centered • - Throttle = 50% • - Pitch = hovering

  6. Electric heli:Normal ThrottleCurve • For electric helis we use a different throttle curve which rises more quickly (having bigger slope) to speed up motor rpm.

  7. Idle Up 1 CurvesSpeed • To come down the helicopter • Throttle/Pitch stick at lowest position • - Negative Pitch (heli comes down) • - Keep Throttle high

  8. Electric heli:Idle Up 1 ThrottleCurve • For electric helis we keep high rpm with a high throttle curve.

  9. Idle Up 2 Curves3D • Inverted flight • Stick at lowest position • - Max negative Pitch • - Throttle to 100% • Stick at middle position • - Pitch = 0° • - Throttle = 50% to maintain rotor speed

  10. Electric heli:Idle Up 2 ThrottleCurve • For electric helis throttle remains very high and is nearly constant.

  11. Hold (Throttle Hold) Curve • Landing with engine in idle • => no throttle curve • Pitch curve only: • Negative Pitch -> descent phase: speed up the rotor using relative wind • Positive Pitch -> to slow down the heli just before to land
