  1. Reflexive Verbs To say that people do something to or for themselves, you use reflexive verbs. For example, washing one’s hands and brushing one’s hair are reflexive actions because the person doing the action also receives the action. Ej. Yo me lavo las manos antes de comer. Tú te cepillas el cabello en la mañana. Antes de una cita, (yo) me duchoyme arregloel pelo. I wash my hands (myself) before eating. You brush your hair (yourself) in the morning. Before a date, I shower (myself) & fix my hair (myself).

  2. You know that a verb is reflexive if its infinitive form ends with the letters se. Ej. lavarse - cepillarse - ducharse - peinarse Reflexive Pronouns: The reflexive pronouns in Spanish correspond to their appropriate subject:

  3. Conjuguemos: Secarse: to dry off (oneself) Después de lavarme el pelo, me seco el pelo con un secador. After washing my hair, I dry my hair (myself) with a blow-drier.

  4. Lavarse: to wash (oneself) Tú te lavas las manos antes de almorzar. You wash your hands (yourself) before eating lunch.

  5. Ponerse: to put-on oneself Los atletas se ponen desodorante antes de jugar un partido. The athletes put deoderant (on themselves) before playing a game/match.

  6. **Some verbs have both reflexive and nonreflexive forms and usages. A verb is used in its non-reflexive form if the action is being done to someone or something else. Ej.Lavo el coche a menudo. I wash the car often. Me lavo el pelo todos Iwash my hair los días. everyday. When you use a reflexive verb with parts of the body or clothing, use an article (el, la, los, las) NOT the possessive (mi, tu, (un, una, unas, unos) su, nuestro). Ej. Yo siempre me lavola cara. I always wash my face. Tomás se viste con un traje negro.Tim dresses in a black suit. ¿Siempre te pintaslas uñas?Do you always polish your nails? Felipe se poneloszapatos.Felipe puts on his shoes.

  7. Reflexives with 2 Verbs: When you have 2 verbs, you can put the reflexive pronouns before the verbs or you can attach them to the infinitive (2nd verb): Ej.1 Me voy a duchar. Voy a ducharme. Ej.2 Te tienes que vestir para la fiesta. Tienes que vestirte para la fiesta. Ej.3 Se acaba de levantar. Acaba de levantarse. Ej.4 Nos queremos poner un abrigo. Queremos ponernos un abrigo.
