  2. Styrofoam • 14 million metric tons annually • 98% goes to landfill • 70% goes to landfill within 12 months of use • Takes up 25-30% of all landfill space • 98% air and only 2% plastic and does not degrade • Japan, Korea and Europe recycle as much as 60% of eps (styrofoam)

  3. RecycleTech buys back extruded plastic at .20 to .22 lb. Will also pick up 35,000lb loads at no charge.

  4. Plastic can be extracted from the d-limonene and pelletized for reuse as a raw material • Can be used to make glue • This article describing the process can be viewed at • http://sysdoc.doors.ch/SONYERICSSON/11/cxeye.pdf

  5. I see an opportunity for Sturgis to become a regional styrofoam recycling center which would: • Benefit the environment • Create jobs • Administrative, marketing of the service, collection, processing and sales of finished product • Could be a resource for local companies that produce plastic products • Might act as a template/franchise opportunity for other communities interested in creating employment while helping the environment.

  6. MOVING FORWARD • Further research to discover most viable, cost effective solutions • Development of sound business plan • In depth analysis of projected startup and operating cost for the first 2 years • Explore available funding/partnership resources • Meet with community leaders and business owners for further guidance and support
