  2. UNO • Mexico was the only Latin American Country to ever host the Olympics. • The Olympics were held in 1968 in Mexico City

  3. DOS • The Main square in Mexico City’s Historic city is the Segundo largest public square in the world. Moscow is the only one that is bigger. • Mexico City is also the Second Largest city in the world after Tokyo

  4. TRES • Hay tres colores diferentes en la bandera de México, Rojo, Verde, y Blanco.

  5. CUARTO • Pyramids have 4 sides. Mexico has many pyramids which were built by Aztecs, Mayans, and Totonacs. The largest pyramid in Mexico is the Sun at Teotihuacan. It it 210 feet high!

  6. CINCO • 5 Men take part in the volador, which is a flying pole dance. One man plays an instrument, the other 4 men are dancers. This is a historic dance from the Aztecs. The men tie a rope around their waist and fly through the air dressed like birds. Each flyer swoops around the pole 13 times and each time more rope is let out a little more until the voladores are almost to the ground. The pole is about 100 feet high.

  7. SEIS • Mexico city is sinking at a rate of 6 inches a year because it is built on top of an underground reservoir

  8. SIETE • Mexico is famous for 7 famous arts and crafts. • Pottery, Silver/gold work, basketry, leather work, weaving, woodwork, and glass blowing.

  9. OCHO • Eight foods were given to the world from Mexico • Corn, chocolate, tomatoes, vanilla, pumpkins, avocados, chilis, and coconuts.

  10. NUEVE • A complete bullfight will have nueve contestants, 6 bulls and 3 men to fight them. The men are called matadores and the bulls are called toros bravos. Bullfighting was introduced to Mexico by Spain.

  11. DIEZ • Diez creatures are native to Mexico that we are familiar with: • Chihuahuas • prairie dogs • the burro (donkey) • the Jaguar • the Opossum • the iguana • the coral snake • the desert tortoise • the parrot • quetzal bird
