Story of the Week: Little Red Hen Weekly Theme: Helping Hands September 23, 2013 Story Vocabulary Spelling/Decoding The following are story vocabulary words that will be covered in our reading selection this week. Please talk with your child about the meanings of these words and how they were used in the story. Since the meanings of these words are what are the most important to having your child understand the story, we will not be concen- trating on the spellings. Your child should be able to recognize the words by sight and know what they mean. The following are words that your child needs to learn how to spell. We refer to these words as Word Wall Words. Please work with your student to see if he/she can make other words that have the same spelling patterns (the underlined portion) that he/she might remember when writing. Students needing more of a challenge are encouraged to try harder words on the Friday Spelling Test. (Column 2) Academic Vocabulary These words refer to key concepts within the content areas of Language Arts, Math, Science or Social Studies.
