Ephesians 4:12 for the perfecting of the saints for the work of the ministry, and for the edifying of the body of Christ. The purpose of the Five Fold Ministries and the Gifts of the Holy Spirit
"And he gave some Apostles : and some Prophets ; and some Evangelists ; some pastors and teachers; for the perfecting of the saints for the work of the ministry, for the Edifying of the body of Christ: Till we all come to the unity of faith, and of the knowledge of the son of god unto a perfect man, until the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ" Eph 4:11-13 Purpose of the Five Fold Ministries
"That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing: but that it should be holy and without blemish". Eph5: 27 • Perfection of the Body is progressive. To attain the perfection in our personal lives, and in our ministry, we all have to expose ourselves to these five ministries. • Perfection of every saint affects the perfection of the whole Body of Christ. To construct a building, different kinds of tradesmen work together; until unless all sort of workers do their work the building will be imperfect. The Perfecting of the Saints
The work of the ministry is not only evangelism but it includes all kinds of ministry that God has placed in the church. New Testament Ministry is not one man ministry. It is a corporate ministry. When the Five Fold ministry is harmoniously operative, all the saints will be trained and equipped to do what God wants them do. The Work of the Ministry
Edifying means building up. Through the five fold ministry, Holy spirit builds up the whole body of Christ, which is unique and universal. The universal body of Christ is not a human organization, nor it is a domination; but it is an organism, which is being built up for the Lord. All the local churches are members of the universal body of Christ. The Edifying of the Body of Christ
The main purpose of the gifts is to build up the body of Christ (Eph. 4:7-13). • Spiritual gifts re also given by the Holy Spirit to individual believers to empower and enable them to serve others (1Cor. 12:4-21; Eph. 4:7-13; Romans 12:6-8). • The Holy Spirit is the One who gives the gifts as he wills. The gifts are not the result of human effort, but they are completely the work of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is sovereign and may give any gifts he wants at any time he wills (1 Cor. 12:11). Purpose of the gifts of the Holy Spirit
It is important to note that spiritual gifts do not prove an authentic spiritual experience (1 Corinthians 12:7, 11, 13; Ephesians 4:7-8). • The Corinthian church had manifestations of the Spirit, but they lacked spiritual maturity and holiness. • 1 Samuel 10:11 And it happened, when all who knew him formerly saw that he indeed prophesied among the prophets, that the people said to one another, “What is this that has come upon the son of Kish? Is Saul also among the prophets?” The Manifestation of the Gifts
The gifts are to be exercised under the leadership of the church and according to biblical guidelines (Rom. 12:3-8; 1 Cor. 12, 14). • We should not “believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God” (1 John 4:1). • 11 These [Bereans] were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so. Guidelines for the utilization of the Gifts
God wants that we may grow up into Jesus Christ in ALL THINGS (Eph 4:15) yes, we have to grow up into the fullness of Christ and this is possible when we expose our self to the five fold ministry and to the gifts of the Holy Spirit. It is our responsibility to do so! Conclusion
