  1. Earthquakes By: Zach Liebhart And Vicky Page.

  2. One. The super continent called Pangaea. It had evidence that all the continents were once combined creating Pangaea, and there was evidence of this too. Fossils of one animal were found on shores of one continent and the same fossil was found on another shore on another continent across the ocean! The same applies with mountains! How many “supercontinents” did Wegener’s theory of continental drift assume?

  3. North American, Juan de Fuca and Pacific plates affect the USA. This happens because when those plates rub against each other waves go against the US causing shaking; Earthquakes. What MAJOR plates affect the US?

  4. California has more earthquakes than Florida because California sits right along the San Andreas Fault, which causes earthquakes. This would apply for any other states in the world that sits on a fault line. I don’t think our home is in a very high hazard zone. Why does California have more earthquakes than Florida?

  5. What are the 3 different types of plate boundaries? • Convergent boundaries are plates that go towards each other, divergent boundaries are plates that go away from each other, and transform boundaries which is two plates going up and down.

  6. WHICH- The 1556 Shaanxi earthquake or Hua County earthquake or Jiajing earthquake is the deadliest earthquake on record.MAGNITUDE- 8DEATH TOLL- killing approximately 830,000 people. WHEN- It occurred on the morning of 23 January 1556 AD WHERE- In Shaanxi, China. More than 97 counties in the provinces of Shaanxi, Shanxi, Henan, Gansu, Hebei, Shandong, Hubei, Hunan, Jiangsu and Anhui were affected. A 520 mile-wide area was destroyed and in some counties, 60% of the population was killed. [4] Most of the population in the area at the time lived in yaodong, artificial caves in loess cliffs, many of which collapsed during the catastrophic occurrence, with great loss of life What is considered to be the most destructive earthquake in history?

  7. Tsunamis are waves caused by the displacement of water from an earthquake. They usually move about 600 mph. What are tsunamis?

  8. The two types of waves are primary waves and Secondary waves. Primary waves can travel through all three types of of matter. Secondary waves can only travel through solids. Primary waves travel faster. What are the two types of energy waves created by an earthquake?

  9. It releases x32 more energy then a 6.2 earthquake. What is the difference from 6.2 earthquake and a 7.2 earthquake?

  10. What applications does seismology have besides measuring the magnitude and location of earthquakes? Reflection and refraction seismology can be used in geophysical exploration to locate layers of varying density which can be used for example to locate underground hydrocarbons in the oil and gas industry.

  11. Alaska has had the most earthquakes in the last week, with 41 earthquakes. Some people would think it was California, but California has had only 25 earthquakes in the last week. Where did most of the earthquakes happen last week?

  12. No, and it is unlikely they will ever be able to predict them. Scientists have tried many different ways of predicting earthquakes, but none have been successful. On any particular fault, scientists know there will be another earthquake sometime in the future, but they have no way of telling when it will happen. Can scientists predict earthquakes?

  13. Seismograms come in handy for locating earthquakes. being able to see the P wave and the S wave is important, and they allow you to do that. How do scientists know where earthquakes actually occur?
