Noah Webster (1828 Dictionary): “Voluntary [LOVING] obedience alone can be acceptable to God.” The Lord’s definition of obedience is much higher than ours.

  7. We live in the most exciting time in the history of the earth. All of the prophets looked forward to our day. We have every reason to be filled with hope and love -- anticipating the glorious return of our Lord and Savior. Satan – knowing it is his last hour – is filling the world with hate, fear, anxiety, envy, pride, sexual perversions, depression, discouragement (What can I do?), despondency, obesity, and dumbing us down so that we cannot see how he is deceiving the masses. Thus we see a world spiraling down in wickedness. This is a massive sign of the times.

In glorious contrast, the (few) humble followers of Christ are spiraling up in love, joy, and peace in the midst of the storms of life, because we know Him who is coming and that the purging times ahead are a necessary part of saving our constitution and the preparing a pure in heart people (Zion) who will be ready to meet Him as the Bride meets the Bridegroom. Satan has no power to destroy such a bright hope when we are totally focused on Him, who is our Redeemer and are filled with His love.

  10. In 1892 Dr. Andrew D. White former president of Cornell University was at the time serving as U.S. Ambassador to Germany. Dr. White -- a frequent visitor with Count Leo Tolstoy – had the following conversation.

  11. Dr. White, tell me about your American religion We have no state church in America. I know…, but I want to know about the American religion, Catholicism originated in Rome; the Episcopal Church originated in England; the Lutheran Church in Germany, but the Church to which I refer originated in America, and is commonly known as the Mormon Church. What can you tell me of the teachings of the Mormons?

"Well," said Dr. White, "I know very little concerning them...“ Dr. White, I am greatly surprised and disappointed that a man of your great learning and position should be so ignorant on this important subject. The Mormon people teach the American religion; their principles teach the people not only of heaven and its attendant glories, but how to live so that their social and economic relations with each other are placed on a sound basis. If the people follow the teaching of this Church, nothing can stop their progress -- it will be limitless. There have been great movements started in the past but they have died or been modified before they reached maturity. If Mormonism is able to endure, unmodified, until it reaches the third and fourth generation, it is destined to become the greatest power the world has ever known.

High Road or Low Road • High Road based on Law of Love – filled with joy and love through voluntary unselfish service following the example of the Savior • Low Road based on Law of Obedience – often seen as a duty and often feels heavy (grunt and grit to get the job done) • Ironically, if we take the Lord’s definitions: Obedience bathed in love is the same as Love bathed in obedience, but the feelings are very different.

  15. We see that LOVE isThe First Law of HeavenAs we approach the Second Coming Helping it be on earth As it is in heaven Makes all the difference As we do the will of the Father, we will save the constitution and build Zion.

Mormon gives us the key: Wherefore, my beloved brethren, pray unto the Father with all the energy of heart, that ye may be filled with this love, which he hath bestowed upon all who are true followers of his Son, Jesus Christ; that ye may become the sons of God; that when he shall appear we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is; that we may have this hope; that we may be purified even as he is pure. Amen. (Moroni 7:48)

Jefferson said that “educating the common people” was paramount. “If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be.” He further wisely counseled, “Let our countrymen know that the people alone can protect us against these evils” [of misgovernment].

  18. Similarly for Religion • It is impossible for a man to be saved in ignorance. D&C 131:6 • The glory of God is intelligence, or, in other words, light and truth. Light and truth forsake that evil one. D&C 93:36-37 • To know God is eternal life. John 17:3 • God is love. • This is the major message of the restoration that has not yet been inculcated.

  19. (JST 1 John 4:7-9) Beloved, let us love one another; for love is of God; and everyone that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not, knoweth not God; for God is love. In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. No man hath seen God at any time, except them who believe. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.
