SUMMARY • The project help teachers of Lousada and Craiova, to find the best way to introduce relevant European Union subjects in school curricula, in order to raise the knowledge of students about European Union, reduce the EUrocepticism in future and current generations, and contribute on a real citizenship at EU level. • To achieve these goals, teachers and persons responsible for the organization of education started by inquiring their students regarding literacy on EU subjects and elect the subjects most “ignored” by the students in order to be included in the school’s curricula. • Each year (2011 and 2012) the core team of the project adopted strategies, educated pupils through multiple activities in the schools, growing their motivation and interests for EU subjects, a public Forum organized helped teachers to participate and explore/incorporate Project Methods and ideas in their own school.

Activities • Project team developed an action-research activity, by inquiring the students of both regions about their knowledge in specific issues of EU, namely: health, education, employment, environment, consumers’ rights, etc. • Each year have a “transversal” subject that schools work with: 2011: “employment” and 2012 “intergenerational solidarity”. School teachers acting as “mentors” of learning communities on EUcitizenship were also in contact in both regions, learning with each other the best strategy to mainstreaming the subjects of the Project into school curricula and how learning communities can enhance students’ performance at personal and educational level. • Difficulties, good strategies and plans to the future were the main focus of the meeting and Forums. During the Forum (2011 and 2012 edition) external experts will be invited to give tuitions or lead hands-on workshops. The transversal theme of each year focused on Employment and Intergenerational solidarity).
„SOLIDARITY in SCHOOLS” • Educative institutions, School M. Eminescu, Traian, Eschool no. 18, Art Highschool , Coanda, Titulescu, involved in Comenius Regio, developed intergeneration programs for pupils, students, youngsters also living in urban and in rural area, using knowledge and resources as European added values. • Learning more about UE, through our activities, we educate our pupils, teachers, staff to rise awareness for health, education, employment, environment, consumers’ rights, peace and democracy, educating them by diminishing vulnerability of population groups, by the extent and duration of exposure to climate, by society’s ability to strength solidarity to cope with the change for Europe stability.
Promoting EU values • The project helped us to promote EU values, the spirit of cohesion and social solidarity, tolerance, respect and understanding among pupils, students, youth, teachers on Portuguese and Romanian community members as active citizens who live in a common Europe . • Thus participants, those responsible for organizing and providing education had contributed by developing proposed activities from taking new knowledge that enriched youngsters to learn more not only about the institutions of European Union, about their culture, tradition and patrimony values, to really appreciate for a better understanding between EU countries.
Pupils as Active citizens for Europe. • Pupils and teachers, participants involved in the project learned more about the EU, symbols, to be much higher than that from the beginning.Investigation, action-research activities, communication sessions, workshops, forums, materials to get a new experience in using the best strategies for mainstreaming project of European topics in school curricula • Activities, events, appointments, questionaires, posters, presentation, results, working together in the project are visible on the forums and institutions involved.
Cultural added values • The cultural aspect is essential for the union and that is why we must try to comprehend and accept the culture of the other states, in order to know something more about Portuguese and Romanian culture. • The information is already provided by booklets, books in the school bookshops and libraries, leaflets or guidebooks and last but not least by web page of the project, and online encyclopedias on the internet. • We learned from each others how important is to cooperate, to give the opportunity our community learners to discover more about each other education system, a strategy that improved personal UE knowledge, strengthening European dimension.
Our Europe is for Pupils • Pupils are ambassadors of their countries, Europe is for them.
