  2. Positive and Negative Numbers in Real Life Situations Outcome: In groups students will create a poster that models a real life scenario involving positive and negative numbers. Outcome: Students will be able to place positive and negative numbers on a horizontal and vertical number line, and identify the integer represented in a situation to complete their centers. 6.NS.C.5, 6.NS.C.6a, 6.NS.C.6c

  3. Opening Problem • On your white board please draw horizontal and vertical number lines. • Place both of these numbers on both number lines: • -4 and 8

Exploratory Stations • It’s all about the $ • Page 5 all • What’s the integer? • Page 7 #4 & Page 8 #1 • Is it hot or cold? • Page 8 # 2-5 • Picture it • Record on the back of the cover page Each station has a “silent teacher”/example. You will need to read through it and the directions for each station before you ask for help. It is important to stay on task as you will only have about 5 minutes at each station.

  7. Group Poster: 15 minutes • Create your own real-world situation involving: • Money • Temperature • Elevation • Other real world scenarios • Include: • Title (ex. Sea level, Temperature) • Written situation based on title (use at least 2 points) • A BLANK vertical number line • Answer key (separate piece of paper stapled to back) • Picture (IF TIME)
