Individual Graduation Plan Meetings • Each student and their parent(s) will schedule a meeting with his/her school counselor to complete an individual graduation plan using our new appointment program - Youcanbook.me. This program will allow you to see the appointment times available and schedule the time that works best for you. • Questions related to college applications, financial aid, scholarships, military enlistment, and/or entering the workforce will be addressed. • ACT, SAT, ASVAB, and NextGen/ACCUPLACER testing information will be provided. • Direction for planning and next steps will be provided.

TRANSCRIPT AND GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS • Check your transcript for credits earned, GPA, and Class Rank. • Verify your mailing address, telephone number, ethnicity, parent(s) name, and the spelling of your name for your diploma. • Review the courses identified by your school counselor that you must pass to earn a diploma. • Remember: college acceptance is provisional. Your final transcript will be reviewed by the college and acceptance can be withdrawn.

7. Graduation Requirements for State High School Diploma (Grades 9-12) A student must earn a total of 24 prescribed units of credit. The unit requirements are distributed as follows: Unit Requirements NOTE: Some colleges require additional classes for college acceptance. It is your responsibly to ensure you are meeting the minimum entrance requirements.

8. DUAL CREDIT: College courses which allow you to earn both high school and college credit are called dual credit. Most courses at TTC under the AA or AS program qualify for dual credit. Must have a qualifying test score on either the SAT, ACT or the ACCUPLACER/NextGen to Mrs. Lawrence by November 1st for Spring semester classes. Six hours or more per semester can qualify a student for lottery money. All questions/concerns about dual credit should be directed to Mrs. Lawrence.

9. TTC or Other Two Year College after graduation? You must complete the 2 year college application either in the fall or spring of your senior year. Goal: Complete by March 1st ACCUPLACER/NextGen, ACT, or SAT scores are accepted. LIFE Scholarship eligibility is based on your final GPA. You must apply for FAFSA and mark that you want to be considered for State scholarships and grants.. To accept LIFE Scholarship, TTC requires that you sign an acceptance form before enrolling.

11. What is the difference between the SAT and ACT?

12. TESTING: PSAT for Juniors--$16.00 – This is the practice SAT. College bound students who receive free or reduced lunch students can take this test for free. The last day to sign up is October 4, 2019. The test will be given on October 16, 2019. ACT--$68.00 (Plus Writing) $52.00 (No Writing)—6 test dates per year— (2 waivers for free or reduced lunch students). Late registration adds $30.00. You should receive your scores during your IGP Meeting with your counselor if your took it the 11th grade. SAT--$64.50 (With Essay) $49.50 (Without Essay)—7 test dates per year—(2 waivers for free or reduced lunch students). Late registration adds $30.00. You should receive your scores during your IGP Meeting with your counselor if your took it the 11th grade. ACCUPLACER/NextGen— An SAT based computer test used by 2 year colleges for academic placement. Free when taken while in high school. Given at GCHS once per semester but available M-F at TTC. Next test at GCH on November 21st ASVAB—Needed for entrance into all branches of service (Free); does have a career component. Will be given on October 16th, December 4th, and April 29th. Study Session will be held Wednesdays in Room 209. WIN – Juniors took this Career Assessment last spring. You should receive your scores during your IGP Meeting with your counselor if your took it the 11th grade.

College Application Day • Students needing assistance on their college applications should sign-up to attend this event using the Kisok in Guidance. • College representatives will be on hand to assist and answer questions. • Fee waivers for College Applications will be available. WHEN? October 23, 2019

14. College Applications……. Be aware of deadlines! Please give your counselor at least one week to process your applications. Do not wait until the due date to submit requests. Use dark blue or black ink! Pencil or colored ink is not acceptable. Write legibly! Write large enough to be read. Turn in all required materials at one time. Transcripts should be requested through PARCHMENT! It is recommended that all college applications be turned in by November 15, 2019. However, be aware of each college’s deadlineas some may be sooner.

15. College Applications……. DO NOT WAIT on SAT or ACT scores to turn in your application. Test scores can be sent later. Test scores must be sent directly from the testing company in order to be considered “official”. When registering for the SAT or ACT, identify the schools where you want your scores sent. If you don’t do this when you register, then you will have to pay ACT or SAT to send your scores after you have taken the test (about $12 per college).

16. College and Scholarship Applications Every college application and most scholarship applications require that a transcript be included. All transcripts should be requested by the student through PARCHMENT. The first and final transcripts are free. The final transcript should be requested two weeks after graduation. There is a $3.50 fee for all other transcript requests.

17. Scholarship Applications: Read the School Counseling web page on the school website and check the Senior Google Classroom. Read the announcements emailed daily to you and presented in class for updates on scholarships and other opportunities for Seniors. Follow directionsfor completing scholarships. They are similar to those for college applications. Deadlines are given on each scholarship. Counseling Office deadlines are about two weeks prior to scholarship deadlines, even if it is not listed or the scholarship is from an outside source.

18. Financial Aid • FAFSA – Free Application for Federal Student Aid • Go to www.fafsa.ed.gov to apply for FSA ID and complete FAFSA • You and your parent will need an FSA ID. This will allow you to “Sign” your FAFSA form online at the end of the form • 2019-2020 Application will be available beginning October 1, 2019 • Use your 2018 tax forms

19. FINAL SENIOR SIGN OUT All seniors must “sign out” with their counselor at the end of the school year Be prepared to let your counselor know where to send your final transcript You will be asked for updated contact information You must meet all graduation requirements to be eligible to participate in graduation Graduation will be June 2nd at 11:30 AM at the North Charleston Coliseum Seniors arrive at 10:00 AM
