Prerequisites • Audio file WAV-format • recent version of EXMARaLDA • Java run-time environment 1.5 or 1.6 • Sound is working and turned on? • Earphones? • EXMARaLDA Partitur-Editor started? • Language settings OK? (start anew after change) • Edit > Preferences… > Language 05.03.11 2
Open transcription • Doubleclick on a file type *.exb • File > Open…
Navigate in transcription and recording • Green and red selection border: Selection is attached to timeline of the transcription • Blue selection border: no connection to file • Play selection using [*] • Change selection borders dragging or using the mouse wheel
Create new transcription • Step by step: • File > New • Metadata: Transcription > Meta information… • Speaker table: Transcription > Speakertable… • Recording(s): Transcription > Recordings… • Create tiers: Tier > Add tier… • In one step using the wizard: • File > New from wizard…
Transcribing • Select a part of the recording • Add event… • Select tier • Enter the transcription (=text) • Shift selection • Adjust selection • Continue with step 2.
Transcribing • Append interval • for monologic passages or linear turn-taking • several steps • 2-Sec-selection at the end of prevoiusly transcribed • appends an intervall on the timeline • changie the right selection border • adjust transcription text to matching event

Specify overlapping • Select intervall 3 and listen to it • Locate cursor within event • Event > Split event • Select a point in time • Repeat for interval 3
