  2. Project Overview • Instrumentation and analysis system for a aluminum-fuelled hydrogen-powered golf cart. • Primary goal: aid in very promising hydrogen-fuel technology codenamed “Alumoline”. • Sensors to monitor important hydrogen system readings. • Dashboard display similar to Toyota Prius and Nissan GT-R.

  5. Updated PSSCs • An ability to receive signals from various sensors (temp., pressure, fuel level). • An ability to translate the sensor signals into meaningful data. • An ability to store data on external memory. • An ability to use a touch screen to send commands to the microcontroller to control the logging of data and to provide a user configurable display for the logging of data from multiple sensors. • An ability for the microcontroller to receive and execute commands to remotely enable, disable and control the sampling rate of multiple sensors.

  6. Critical Design Constraints • Rugged and Durable Packaging, the product needs to last years. • Operating temperature from -30 C to 90 C • UART to interface with Atom Board. • 32 K Flash would be sufficient, no less • At least six AtoD I/O • SPI interface for SD card • Low Power (Battery)

  7. Pressure Sensors/Transducers • Need to withstand extreme pressure range and temperatures. Has to have rugged construction. • We chose GE’s PTX/PMP 1260, because it has operating temp -40 F to 185 F • At the heart of PTX/PMP 1260 is an advanced, explosion proof, high stability pressure measurement element, micro-machined from single crystal silicon within. • Army/Navy (AN) fitting

  8. Temperature Thermocouple • Again extreme operating conditions • Sufficient thermocouple length • Army/Navy (AN) fitting for safety reasons. • We chose - Omega kqss-116u-18 • Perfect industrial thermocouple

  9. Microcontroller FINAL CHOICE : Freescale 9S12C32
