And 8 years later ….. • Funded by the LSC and HEFCE through JISC, new funding to 2010 • National remit and branding, strong quality processes, robust network of 13 centres • Support Post-16 and HE: 65 + WBL • strategy, infrastructure, curriculum, learning resources support • Steering group representative of sectors supported
Way we support…. • Site visits • Support line • Workshops and conferences • Learning platform • Forums and user groups • Working in partnership with national, regional initiatives/agendas
ILT Health Checks • RSC West Midlands, pre-inspection check • RSC YH support requests • RSC YH Pilot taking place over 2 years, 7 completed • ‘Developing’ service, UK wide RSC ‘ILT Progress Review’ service
ILT Health Checks (2) • ‘snap shot’, organisational view by an external ‘critical friend’, not linked to inspection, progress with ILT • Highlighted pre-documentation, short survey for infrastructure • Structured interviews in one day • Report presented to senior management
Report structure • Leadership and vision - communicating, quality, impact on the learner, managing change • Resources – staff development and infrastructure • Learner support – personalisation, ICT skills, social networking • Learning and teaching – use of technology, innovation, understanding of what is good practice
Who is involved.. • Nominee – senior member of staff • Principal • SMT- ILT, quality and staff development • Middle management – implementing the ILT strategy, curriculum areas, LRC, technical • Lectures and learners
Benefits • Usually linked to other tools, raises awareness of e-maturity • Report enables discussion • Strategic focus for future use of RSC YH support • Outputs - SAR process and development plan
Becta e-maturity pilots • Doncaster College and Northern College • March 2007 • Around 20 Colleges involved, varying degrees of e-maturity, focussed on different areas • Pilot framework – tested, refined and amended • Project ‘intervention’ funding
Some comments • Staff ownership of systems to create a rich learning environment for learners, stronger ‘team’ approach • Different level (localised, coordinated, transformative, embedded, innovative) for different areas of colleges – resources, college priorities
Some comments (2) • Using improving learning and teaching as a driver, ‘focussed’ staff development • Strategic approach
