  4. Library Services for MBA Students http://libraries.uky.edu/ • Book Express – We’d like you to come to the library, but know that it is not always convenient. This service will at least get the books closer to you – you can have them sent to the Fine Arts Library for closer pick-up -- Just use the “Make A Request” Link in InfoKat • Interlibrary Loan – We have a lot of materials, but we don’t have everything. If you come across an article or book that you need, but we don’t own or subscribe to it, you can order it using our InterLibrary Loan Service. Articles come in just a few days as PDFs and book usually take a week or so: http://libraries.uky.edu/ILL • Off Campus Access – Almost all of our online resources are available to you from off-campus. You just have to enter your Link-Blue ID and password.

  6. Library’s HomepageMain Search Box http://libraries.uky.edu The UK Library homepage is designed to quickly get all levels of users to the information they need. The one box on the front page is meant to simplify searching. More sophisticated users will, in some cases, want to use the more feature-rich databases to find more complex information. Main box has 5 tabsBooks – searches the library’s catalog, InfokatE-Books – searches a database of ebook holdings.Articles – searches databases in particular discipline areas.E-Journals – searches a database of ejournal holdings to show if UK subscribes to a particular electronic journal (does not search the content of the journals)Databases – a listing of all the databases UK subscribes toQuick Search – searches WorldCat Local, which is a database of many library catalogs and some databases; contains UK’s holdings, as well as those of other libraries around the world.

InfoKatThe Library’s Catalog • Search the library’s catalog for books, as well as other materials such as videos, government documents, some web resources, and journals. • Do not use InfoKat to find journal articles. Only to find if we have holding of a particular title. • Search for known books by the title or author and use the keyword search to find books on a particular topic.

E-Books • Business books are now ordered on an E-book preferred status – so you are likely to encounter e-books when doing business research. • UK offers many e-books available on different platforms and with different features.   12. E-Journals • UK Libraries subscribes to a large number of electronic journals • Use the E-Journals Database to determine if UK subscribes to a particular journal. • Search by journal title, not the title of the article you are looking for.

  14. Research Guides Research guides are web pages maintained by UK librarians which organize and explain how to use the various resources in many subject discipline areas.   16. Business Research Guide • The front page of the Business Research Guide includes quick links to the most frequently used databases. It also includes news and links to any current database trials. • The guide is organized in a way which divides the business resources up by the different types of information sources that students and faculty might need. • Includes information about finding articles, books, and other resources. • Includes explanations about how to find information on companies, industries, consumers, and other business topics.

Main DatabaseBusiness Source Complete • Largest, most comprehensive coverage of business literature • Indexing includes academic journals, trade publications, business magazines and newspaper, reports, case studies, some books and more • Large amount of text available from this database; if not available, try to see if text is available from another source.

Main DatabasesLexis Nexis Academic • Covers many areas including News and Companies • News section indexes many newspapers, as well as some trade publications, from around the world. • Company section has records for nearly every company in the United States and many in the rest of the world. • Company section allows users to create lists of companies that share certain characteristics (such as size, location, industry type, revenue levels, etc.) and download that information into spreadsheets.

Main DatabasesMergent • Provides a great deal of information on companies – public, private, US and Foreign • Downloadable, detailed financial records going back 25 years in some cases. • Information on Executives and their compensation • Links to Annual Reports (10-K) and other SEC filing for public companies. • Information about chief competitors, latest news, long-term debt, property holding, equity, stock ownership, and more. • Also includes industry and country reports.

Main Databases Mintel • Contains detailed reports on numerous consumer product industries • Contains plentiful information about consumer lifestyles and buying habits. • Contains information from the United States and many other countries as well. • Also includes company information and the latest news about the different product areas. • Must log-in and create an account using UK email address.

  25. Other useful databases • First Research – Industry Intelligence – covers over 900 Industry Segments with overviews, forecasts, trends, and more. Also includes State Profiles which monitors employment, business and real estate trends. • Factiva – indexes a large number of news sources including newspapers, news wires, press releases, trade publications, transcripts, and many more. Includes a company and industry section as well as current and historical stock quotes. • Wall Street Journal – full-text from the important business newspaper going back to 1984. • Associations Unlimited – detailed descriptions and links to websites of many local, regional, national, and international associations and groups. Includes many trade organizations. • Jstor– full-text of many journals, including many business titles going back to the first issues. Coverage stops at about 5 years ago. • Social Sciences Research Network (SSRN) – Early versions and working papers for research in many areas including Accounting, Finance, Economics, and Management. Includes some published works and information of interest to scholars in the different fields.
