Kibbutz Ein Gedi was founded in 1956. It is situated on the shore of the Dead Sea – the lowest place on Earth ( - 417m),at the feet of majestic mountains and cliffs. Ein Gedi oasis was ranked 11th among the world's most interesting and recommended natural sites by "National Geographic" . The botanical garden Declared a botanical garden in 1994, it is unique in that its some 1,000 plant specimens from five continents are integrated around the living quarters of the kibbutz, making it the world’s only botanical garden in which people live – in this case, a population of 500.
