Internal Conflict Internal Conflict- A struggle that takes place in a character's mind is called internal conflict. 1. Man vs. Self
External Conflict A struggle between a character and an outside force is an external conflict. 1. Man vs Man 2. Man vs. Nature 3. Man vs. Society 4. Man vs. Machine
Contrasts/Contradictions Learning Goal: To identify a contradiction and understand how it affects a story. RWN – Notes Section 9-25-13 When you’re reading and a character says or does something that’s opposite (CONTRADICTS) what he has been saying or doing all along. You should stop and ask yourself: “Why is the character doing that?” If a character behaves or thinks in a way you don’t expect (CONTRAST) or how you would act in that situation.
